Our Mission
A non-profit (501c3) foundation started in 1998, provides an empowering night-to-remember for seriously ill children and inspires them with “dreaming the impossible dream.” Events are coordinated that let the children share the spotlight with a celebrity and become “A Star for the Night.”
Vision
Every child that is sick, disabled or homeless - will have a chance to share the spotlight and believe in their dreams by ensuring:
- Every sporting event, every concert, every rodeo, every red carpet event, every Miss America Pageant will share a moment to make a special child's dream come true all over the world.
- Every celebrity will have in the back of their mind that they only need to share one min. of their spotlight to change a life and dream.
- A Star for the Night becomes nationwide and millions of children can realize their dreams
Background
About the Founder
Dejra Turley was born and raised in California. She lived in the San Jose Bay Area starting in the 70's til 2000. Dejra and her only daughter Lyndsay moved to Chico California in 2000 to have great schools for high school and college for her daughter Lyndsay, and to have the opportunity to purchase a home. As a single mom, Dejra raised her daughter with owning her own businesses, so she can be a stay at home mom, and be accessible to her daughter for all her needs as a single parent.
Dejra has always been a passionate and giving person, and when she had the ability to start a non-profit organization and use her 25 years of business skills and marketing, A Star for the Night Foundation was born. 1998.
The idea of "Sharing the spotlight" with big celebrities came to Dejra as she realized that celebrities really want to give more than a "meet and greet".
She ran her own business for a living and was able to do all these event without needing any funds, as she was a barter expert- as an owner of a Barter Company for 12 yrs.
It has actually been effortless, as she brought her own dreams to reality by being these angel-like deserving kid's (Fairy Godmother.) Her Sister Cindy Turley, whom passed away in 1978, Dejra credits as her inspiration along with her daughter, to thrive to do her life's work and dream to bring A Star for the Night to a nationwide level and help kids that need self-esteem, hope, and inspiration to go for whatever they desire.
She feels her passion for this is never ending and will accomplish her dreams and make this foundation nationwide within 2 more years.
